Reproduction of the non-native fish Lepomis gibbosus (Perciformes: Centrarchidae) in Brazil.
Minas Gerais is the fourth largest Brazilian state, and has an estimate of 354 native fish species. However, these fish species may be threatened, as this state has the highest rank of fish introductions reported for Brazil and South America. As one from the total of 85 non-native species detected, Lepomis gibbosus was introduced in the 60s to serve both as foragefish and to improve sport fishi...
متن کاملHow Will Climate Warming Affect Non-Native Pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus Populations in the U.K.?
Of the non-native fishes introduced to the U.K., the pumpkinseed is one of six species predicted to benefit from the forecasted climate warming conditions. To demonstrate the potential response of adults and their progeny to a water temperature increase, investigations of parental pumpkinseed acclimatization, reproduction and YOY over-wintering were carried out in outdoor experimental ponds und...
متن کاملPumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Centrarchidae) and associated parasites introduced to Norway
The North American freshwater sunfish, Lepomis gibbosus (Centrarchidae), was found in a pond outside Oslo, Norway in October 2005. The large number of fish (>100) in the pond suggests successful reproduction. Two monogenean parasites, nonnative to Norway, were found on the gill filaments of the fish. The origin of the fish and associated parasites is not known.
متن کاملReproduction of the fish Lutjanus analis (mutton snapper; Perciformes: Lutjanidae) from Northeastern Brazil.
The mutton snapper Lutjanus analis is an overexploited species of economic importance for the Northeast region of Brazil. To determine the reproductive aspects of the mutton snapper, biological data were sampled from Bahia, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará States, between 7 and 200m depth, from February 1997 to December 1999, performed in the Brazilian Economic Exclusive Zone ...
متن کاملLinkage relationships of nine enzyme Loci in sunfishes (lepomis; centrarchidae).
Linkage relationships of nine enzyme loci; aconitase (Acon ), esterase (Est), glucosephosphate isomerase A and B ( Gpi), glycerate-2-dehydrogenase (G2dh), malic enzyme (Me ), phosphoglycerate kinase (Pgk), phosphoglucomutase (Pgm ) and superoxide dismutase (Sod), were investigated in sunfishes (Lepomis, Centrarchidae). Reciprocal F(1) hybrids produced from crosses between green sunfish (Lepomis...
